L.R.E. are in the process of re-designing the Variturn 1642 lathe, the new model designated the 'Variturn 1630' will be available in the spring of 2008.

The new Variturn 1630 will have state of the art high performance electronic speed control with a speed range of 100 - 2400 rpm. at the turn of a dial with no belts to change 760mm between centres with a 200mm centre height (400mm swing), outboard bowl turning capacity of 457mm diameter. Motor power will be 1.1kw (1.5hp).

Other features will include:

• built-in spindle lock incorporating 12 position indexing.
• Digital spindle speed display
• M33 x 3.5mm spindle nose
• Nr. 2 Morse taper in headstock and tail stock spindles
